|Minimizing the impact to people, animals and the environment.|
Aramark’s purchasing decisions can have significant impact on the Earth and our climate. That is why it is so important to us, our clients, and consumers that we consider environmental impacts through our focus on sustainable sourcing. We are committed to increasing our support of suppliers whose methods of production strive to achieve real and sustainable circularity with our natural resources and ecosystems.
Our focus is on improved animal welfare; wild-caught and farmed seafood produced using sustainable methods; products that promote fair and equitable global trade; and even minimizing climate change by avoiding products which contribute to deforestation.
We are dedicated to improving the welfare of animals used in agriculture. Our membership with the National Farm Animal Care Council (NFACC) gives us a broad, and uniquely Canadian perspective on factors that affect the wellbeing of animals raised for meat, eggs and dairy. We strive for a collaborative, science-based approach to help inform meaningful targets for improvement. Our public commitments are realized opportunities to raise the bar towards the best possible standards.
Recent evidence has shown that egg-laying hens are healthier and happier in environments that allow them to express their natural behaviours. We are excited to help support the industry during their transition to this new standard.
We signed on to the Better Chicken Commitment in 2017 in order to promote improved welfare standards for chickens raised for meat worldwide.
The health of the oceans has never been more critical. Billions of people rely on seafood for their livelihood, or as their primary source of protein. Whether wild-caught or farmed, full traceability through the entire supply chain is imperative if we are to develop a seafood industry that can truly be considered sustainable. We are proud to partner with organizations who promote and work to achieve this type of transparency, and who use the latest scientific data as a means of determining the viability of seafood sources. Our unique group certification with the Marine Stewardship Council and Aquaculture Stewardship Council is an example of our commitment towards a better balance between aquatic ecosystems and a sustainable seafood industry.
We work with some of the world’s most reputable organizations to help guide our path toward a more sustainable supply chain, and we are committed to increasing our purchasing of products that bear their recognizable labels. Serving Fairtrade encourages equity in global trade, and the visibility of the Fairtrade mark gives our customers an opportunity to learn more about social justice and choose to support a more responsible market. Our Rainforest Alliance certified tea is indicative of growing practices which are less harmful to the environment.
